The footprints which are on the Moon today
belong to the people of today.

The footprints on other planets
belong to you – the people of tomorrow.

Observation and exploration of space have always fueled human curiosity and desires, at the same time contributing to enormous technological progress. Space technologies that were once inaccessible and seemed to be reserved exclusively for scientists, today have an increasing impact on everyday life. All of this brings distant planets and space closer than ever before.

The exhibition “Planet Shop” by kinoMANUAL / Agnieszka Jarząb i Maciek Bączyk  alludes to the view in shop windows of the July 1969 broadcast of the first human landing on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 mission. The display of televisions in the window became more than mere products to be sold, but windows to the world and the universe. At that extraordinary moment, they played the role of a public theater of technology, enabling the joint experience of a historic event. For many people, it was their first encounter with a global live broadcast, which aroused great emotion and a sense of taking part in something exceptional.

For a few weeks in February, we are transforming the Rodriguez gallery into the “Planet Shop”. It’s a place where nothing can be bought, but one can always look — and dreams, as we know, cost nothing. The exhibition will be an extension of the concept realized a year ago in the FOTO-GEN Gallery in Wrocław. Back then in the middle of winter, we invited everyone to settle down in the “Winter Salon”, and the “Planet Shop” is a space that leads towards the stars…

If you’re going to buy planets, it’s best to do it at night — or at least in the dark. When the light shines, and the glow tempts. A planet is a grand promise, a cloud of gas, an ocean of metal, an unreachable piece of real estate on the edge of the sky.

Before making a final decision, it’s worth taking a good look. A planet is light, a blink from the abyss. And light ensures the optimal display of goods, especially in a reputable showroom.

This is the “Planet Shop”. A phantom business.
